A catalyst epoxy means any substance that catalyzes the curing reaction of an epoxy resin and a hardener. Nothing happens to the catalyst during the reaction. Catalysts speed up the resin cross linking process by reducing the activation energy barrier. Catalysts are very useful in epoxy systems that need rapid curing like in assembly lines or construction sites. With catalyzed curing, there is reduced control over the final product’s mechanical strength. If not carefully monitored, catalysts can make the cured epoxy too brittle, weak, or damaged.
