Active epoxy diluents are the additives which take part in curing process and, therefore, reduce the viscosity of the epoxy resins. Such diluents include reactive components, and in particular, epoxides or other functional groups which under certain conditions bond to the epoxy resin and hardener prior to curing. Active diluents are integrated with the cross-linked polymer network which enables the cured epoxy to retain its mechanical, chemical, and physical properties. Active diluents enhance the surface tension of liquid substrates, flow and penetration which is essential for fine or minute detailing. This makes active diluents important for advanced applications where the performance properties of epoxy must be preserved, such as in coatings, adhesives, and composite materials.
